My client is looking for a Photonics Design Engineer with a diverse skill set to join their Optics and Fibre Optic R&D team in the Fibre-Optic Manufacturing centre based in Torquay. The job will involve a range of tasks related to the design, prototype assembly and test of optical, fibre-optic and photonic based components and sub-systems, typically covering TRL4 to TRL7. This position requires the individual to have a well-rounded background with a broad knowledge base in fibre-optics, photonics and related technologies.
Key responsibilities of this Photonics Design Engineer position are:
- Design and develop optical and photonic components, modules and sub-systems
- Support design modification and engineering changes to existing products
- Responsibility for product development and performance to deliver robust designs to Manufacturing and Product Engineering with full understanding of product performance through modelling and verification testing
- Contribute to cohesive product development strategy which provides the site with the market offering to meet business growth objectives
- Exploit company fibre optic and opto-electronic components to develop cutting edge products, working within multidisciplinary team that includes mechanical and electronic and firmware design engineers
- Active involvement in prototype build - including fibre-optic splicing, mechanical/electrical assembly and opto-electronic test
Skills / Experience - Photonics Design Engineer:
- Knowledge in fibre-optics, photonics and general optics.
- Knowledge in optical design tools, Zemax Optics Studio.
- Knowledge in optical and photonic components, modules and sub-systems.
