Are you a successful Lead Engineer - Mechanical with a passion for engineering?

My client are one of the most successful industrial gases companies in the UK. Due to expansion they are looking for a Lead Engineer - Mechanical to join their business. They are looking for someone who has a strong mechanical engineering background around P&ID, pipework, pressure vessels etc. But they also need someone with mentoring / supervisory experience. In this role you would be supervising 1 x Process Engineer, 1 x Controls Engineer & 1 x Electrical Engineer. So, having a broader knowledge of engineering for industrial gases, not just mechanical, would be beneficial in this position.

As the Lead Engineer - Mechanical, you will be extending specialist mechanical engineering knowledge to deliver improvements in the business goals of safety, reliability, productivity, efficiency and sustainability though developing standard and specifications, approval of designs and modifications.

Emphasis has been paid to maintaining the integrity of the high hazard processes that my client operates to maintain the safety of customers, employees and the public.

The key responsibilities for the role of Lead Engineer - Mechanical will be to:

Develop and apply engineering expertise to manage change and improve business performance:

- Employ a sound theoretical approach in enabling the introduction and exportation of engineering technology to enhance business performance.
- Extend specialist engineering knowledge in particular fields relevant to my client's business particular vessels, pipe work, rotating equipment and fire protection.

Interpret and apply regulation, standards and Guidance and develop my client's specifications and departmental bulletins:

- Engage with Operations, Sales and Customer Engineering to understand current challenges and enable appropriate engineering and technical support to be provided.
- Produce specifications and designs for the projects and approve design of more complex projects completed by third parties.
- Select and develop appropriate tools to analyse engineering problems and develop solutions.

Provide technical and commercial leadership to the application of engineering:

- Regular liaise with the HSE over engineering issues, managing action resolution
- Authorise specifications for new equipment and to ensure the proposed solution will satisfy the business case
- Assess and authorise plant modifications so that change is managed safely and investment addresses priorities.
- Represent the client at EEMUA, BSI & CEN technical committee working group, in order to ensure that technical standards are maintained, and to minimise adverse impact on my client's business.

For the role of Lead Engineer - Mechanical you will need to have:

- Thorough knowledge of engineering principles & safety management systems
- Have expertise in a relevant field of mechanical engineering, preferably design of pressure systems
- Be able to demonstrate experience on high hazard process plan, knowledge of process safety and COMAH regulations.
- Have experience of safety analysis such as HAZOP, LOPA etc:
