Job description

One of the UK's best Power Electronics R&D companies have asked the Redline Group to search for an Engineering Manager to join their growing Research and Development facility based in Essex.

You will responsible for an engineering team of 14 staff, who are a mix of electronic / PSU design engineers, software, electrical, mechanical and test. Some of the design engineers have a broad skill set and overlap into more than one area.

You do not need to be an expert in power supplies at all. The successful candidate is likely to have some exposure to power electronics, but this could be from a background in electronic design or from managing a multi-disciplined team of engineers in an electronics OEM environment, and having to get involved in power issues from time to time. There are plenty of power electronics experts already working here.

Purpose of the Engineering Manager - R&D:
Reporting to the R&D General Manager is accountable for the delivery of successful new
Products to market from the Essex design group; managing and developing a talented
Multidisciplinary engineering team. To improve performance, reduce cost and time to
Market, innovate through management, mentorship, and own contribution.

Key Responsibilities for the Engineering Manager - R&D
Lead, manage and support the R&D Team in line with the company's core values. Hire,
Train, develop, teach, coach, mentor, motivate, reward and performance manage staff
Members.
You must have strong engineering manager / line management experience. And good project management experience.
Meet regularly with direct reports to review performance, identify any issues and set
Expectations of goals
You will be responsible for implementing better processes and procedures within the Engineering/R&D team.
Must have lots of energy and drive, to be able to implement the change management activities around new processes and procedures.
You will have a proven background in successfully delivering products to market within agreed timescales and budgets.
You will have good knowledge of resource management systems / planning tools. And how to utilise these tools / technology in the most effective manner.

Design and Product Delivery - Engineering Manager - R&D
You'll have a R&D / design background, in any of the following disciplines: Electronics, Software, Mechanical
Together with the R&D General Manager, work with senior management in the prioritisation and assessment of future projects, team objectives and key results within the R&D Team.
Review and evaluate product quality, cost effectiveness, and manufacturing performance to standards and takes action as necessary to correct variances.
Accountable for ensuring engineers follow appropriate documentation guidelines and hold design reviews in accordance with product development procedures.
Accountable for leading and managing the team in developing, validating, and documenting product and process requirements.
