The Growing Demand for Mechanical Engineers using CATIA

We asked Brett Longden, Redline’s R&D / Engineering Senior Consultant why there is such a high demand for mechanical design engineers with expertise in CATIA and other similar cae software?

‘CATIA has a global footprint; from the top 20 manufacturers of cars 14 used CATIA-in as the main CAD system. CATIA was a main tool used for the design of the Space Shuttle and over 80% of civil aircraft designers are working in CATIA. CATIA also uses automatic updates, lessening the impact of changes to the design-to-manufacturing process thus saving costs. At Redline we have seen a growing demand for CATIA jobs and CATIA mechanical design engineer jobs due to shortages of graduate engineers and competition from global businesses in the aviation and automotive arena’.

Mechanical engineering

CATIA allows the creation of 3D areas, from 3D images, sheet metal, compounds, shaped, made or pedalling areas up to the meaning of technical devices. The application provides advanced technological innovation for technical appearance & BIW (Body in White). It provides tools to complete product meaning, such as functional specifications as well as kinematics meaning. CATIA provides an extensive variety of applications for pedalling style, for both general pedalling and mold and die.

The software enables manufacturers to create complex products at a very fast rate and allows mechanical design engineers to also make multiple prototypes. On the same platform it provides tools of analysis for the design of products, thus leads to time and cost saving of failures in products prior to manufacturing.

Gone are the days when a designer would use a pencil to draw a 2-dimensional layout on a paper. Using CAD software (CATIA, ProE/Creo, Solidworks etc.) one can easily create a 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional model and modifications to the designs are really easy and smooth.

With Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) design engineers can create simulation and understand the effect of various factors on anything just like using a computer. This helps in saving a lot of time, money and wastage.

The functionality of these software are vast and mechanical engineers have the best mind-set to understand and implement the same. Hence why mechanical engineer trained in these software are in high demand.
