Job description

One of the leading Power Electronics R&D companies have instructed Redline Executive to search for an R & D Engineering Manager (Technical Director Designate) to join their growing business.

My client are headquartered in Europe and are a leading power supply specialist supplying a large range of DC/DC and AC/DC power conversion products.

New products are a key competence and as the R&D manager you will play a significant role and have accountable for the delivery of successfully bringing new products to market, therefore you will work and have a close relationship with the product management team.

You will be managing and developing a talented multidisciplinary engineering team of 15, and will improve performance, reduce cost and time to Market, innovate through management, mentorship, and own contribution.

You will also liaises with the global manufacturing team in the Far East and also with my client's customers in Europe and the USA.

Key Responsibilities of the R & D Engineering Manager (Technical Director Designate) 

  • Lead, manage and support the R&D Team in line with the company's core values.
  • Hire, train, develop, teach, coach, mentor, motivate, reward and performance manage staff members.
  • You must have strong engineering manager / line management experience and good project management experience.
  • Meet regularly with direct reports to review performance and identify any issues.
  • You will be responsible for implementing better processes and procedures within the Engineering/R&D team.
  • Together with the MD, work with senior management in the prioritisation and assessment of future projects, team objectives and key results within the R&D Team.
  • Review and evaluate product quality, cost effectiveness, and manufacturing performance to standards and takes action as necessary to correct variances.


Key requirements

  • Must have lots of energy and drive to be able to implement the change management activities around new processes and procedures.
  • You will have a proven background in successfully delivering products to market within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • You will have good knowledge of resource management systems / planning tools and how to utilise these tools / technology in the most effective manner.
  • You'll have a degree in Electrical or Electronic engineering.
  • Excellent knowledge of electrical circuit theory and its practical application in power electronics
  • 5+ years' experience in design and construction of AC/DC power supplies and/or DC/DC converters
